Peashooter 'silencers'

Forums

I've had my 72 Roadster back together for a couple of weeks and am getting the testing miles in when weather allows. My bike came with a set of Norvil pipes and peashooters. I know they are not quiet but I do find the volume a bit tiring when riding longer distances.

I would like to know if the peashooters that Andover Norton sell are any quieter please? They advertise that theirs have 'noise deadening'-does it work do you know?

Isolastic challenge

Forums

I bought my 2A Commando about 40 years ago and at some point I checked the Isolastic tolerances. That was at least 25 years ago so I thought I would check them again - whether they needed it or not. Not surprising they were as slack as a welly top - so I set out to rectify the situation, which is where my problems began.

Refitting the engine

Forums

I took my head and barrels off my 1970 Commando in situ before I found my knackered cam and had to do a full rebuild. My question now is, can I put the barrels on with the engine out and still easily fit the engine back in the frame or even put the head on too?  My NVT workshop manual doesnt cover this option.

Classic Speedometers personal recommendation

Forums

I’ve just received my reconditioned Commando Speedo and tacho back from Stuart Walker of Classic Speedometers. The Smiths instruments look to have been fitted later so Stuart refinished the faces with the green globes for my ‘72 Commando, as well as full recon of the mechanisms, glass and bezels, recalibration. I know that the trip meter is non standard for that year but I wanted to retain and Stuart aligned the globe very neatly. Superb work.

Freebird luggage carrier - Norton Commando

Forums

Hi, a Norton acquaintance of mine has bought a Freebird luggage monotrailer. He plans to hang the trailer behind a Norton Commando and asked me if I knew anyone who has experience with a mono trailer behind a Commando. But I don't know anyone who has done this, hence the question below.

Has anyone done this and would they like to share their experiences and tips?

Thanks in advance, Jan

Basket weave seat

Forums

Hi all knowing ones out there, what year(s) and engine sizes was the Commando fitted with the so-called basket weave seat. I have a 73 850 Interstate currently fitted with a tatty "squares" seat and I want to replace it but I think they were fitted with the basket weave seats at this time. Am I right. Thanks Al

handlebar switchs

Forums

Hello

New to the club and the forum having just started putting together the pile of bits which is supposed to end up a '75 mk 111. The parts availability is very good but I am having trouble finding a LH switch/clutch lever fitting which I gather is no longer made. Be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to a source or alternative which would fit. It looks as though the Triumph ones are almost identical but they have the same problem.

Regards

Tim

1972 Combat Interstate Camshaft

Forums

Hello I am currently stripping down the engine on my 1972 Combat Interstate, which I have owned from new, to investigate the cause of low oil pressure when hot. The bottom end has never been apart before, so when I split the crankcases yesterday, I was surprised to find that a standard cam was fitted rather than a 2S. All this time, I’ve never understood descriptions of the power characteristics of the 2S cam, and now I know why!
