Hi, as the proud owner of a newly acquired Commando, I was a bit disconcerted to realise there was nowhere to stash any tools. Andover Norton supply a tray but I can't quite figure out where it might go. I would guess under the seat? Doesn't seem to be enough room. Mine is a Mk3 Roadster. Any pictures of a tray installed would be very helpful.

Thanks Nick. The picture was excellent. Mine is missing the tray. I can get one from Andover Norton. I think it is tempting fate to ride around with nothing!

Tool tray?
On the side opposite the oil tank there should be a built in pouch holder for the tool roll.
Have you checked there?
What year and model bike do you have?

Re posted tool tray picture
Hi Geoffrey,
My Commando is also a Mk3 (1977). It's worth putting some thin rubber tape on the edge of the tray to avoid scratching paintwork and scuffing the mudguard under the tray.
The original Commando Mk3 toolkit was in a lightweight plasticised fabric pouch which just fitted the tray. These days, I tend to have a small backpack with toolkit when travelling!
The earlier Commandos (as noted in Michael Sullivan's post) had space behind the left-hand side panel for tools but on the Mk3, the space was used up by having a plastic air filter housing and bigger battery for the electric start.
All the best, Nick.

@Geoffrey Stovold
Hi Geoffrey, The tray sits over the rear mudguard, behind the bulkhead where the starter solenoid and oil tank are located. It's pretty cramped with limited space for tools.
Picture is attached.
All the best, Nick Harwood.
