A real Spares shop?

A couple of days ago I managed to get lost in Kettering, Northants. Driving through a trading estate on the edge of the town, I passed what looked like an old-time bike shop. Road was a dead end, so I had to turn back the way I came in, and so slowed down for a better look. To my astonishment, the big sign above the doors said it was the AJS/Matchless Owners Club Ltd, inc Kettering Classic motorcycles.

Parked up in the small forecourt, went inside for a look-see. Around 15 or so bikes on the Showroom floor, mostly AJS/M’s of course, but with a bright shiny red 750 Commando right at the front (yours for £8250 sir…). A proper lean-on Spares Counter, and a “keep out of the workshop” sign at the back. It’s open Mon-Thu, plus Saturday by appointment.

I was astonished that this club could run to a full-time, bricks and mortar operation. Clearly they have done their sums, and figure it’s a viable proposition.

Wouldn’t it be fab if NOC could mount a similar operation? With the sad passing of Mick Hemmings, the 2 main unaffiliated retailers of Norton bits are perhaps a bit far “oop North” for some types (ie me!), so somewhere a bit more central would be great!

It's only just over an hour on the M6 from Kettering to Norvil Motorcycles if you want to buy Norton parts over the counter
