Oil everywhere!

Forums

Hi All,

Thanks for the tips on timming etc. I've been running around on my 1936 engined 16H, a bit oily on the timing side, so I gunked it all down and went for a short run about 3/4 miles, the side seemed quite dry, so I went on a longer run about 20/25 miles, oil all over the timing side covering right back over the gearbox as well. I cleaned it all off again, put more oil in oil tank, to about two thirds full and gone for another run. I've done this about 3/4 times now, same result, using about a good third or more oil in the tank on a 20 mile run!. Could there be excess oil in the engine "sump" and the pressure pushing it out somewhere? I thought the scaving pump would pump it back, but when I check the oil return say from cold there is a steady stream of returning oil for about 5 seconds not much more, then all I get is a spasmodic trickle, is that right? I hope you lot can help me again please, cheers Tony.
