Oh no, an oil question....

Forums

What does the team think for a 1952 laydown box? I've put in 140 grade gear oil but am thinking that it may be a bit thick and contributing to the poor downward changes. 140 gear oil does equate to round about 60 grade engine oil according to the Opie website.

Upward changes are fine, as is 4th to 3rd.

I'm only an amateur on the topic, but I think you're right thinking a thinner oil will improve shifting. As has been said in other threads, some modern gear oils are unfriendly to yellow metal. At present my favourite is a Motul oil (Except in the Burman which needs semifluid grease to stay inside the box). Reading the product description seems promising
