NORTON 99 1956

Just had my wheel rims rebuilt and fitted the wheel to the front forks, the front wheel is off set between the forks is this correct or should it be central between the forks.

As Robert says the rim should be central. However, if the yokes or fork boots have been changed this may affect the position of the wheel inside the fork bottoms. Later bottoms in earlier yokes will cause problems.

If the rim fitted was a WM2 and is central then a straight edge across the open face of the brake side drum (no brake plate) should also just touch each opposite edge of the rim. Give or take a mm. But no more.

Thanks for the info it is fitted with WM 2 so I will give them a ring tomorrow and get it sorted.

The wheel is central between the forks but to achieve this the wheel is built with an offset.

If your wheel was built central to the hub instead of offset, as a stop gap measure you can put a 1/8" spacer between the brake plate and the fork slider. This will centralise the wheel, not ideal but does the job.
