Navigator cylinder

Forums

Today I finally got my barrels and heads back from the engine shop! Heads got new guides and valves, one barrel had to be sleeved and both are honed.

Now I can put my engine together. The barrels and heads were missing hwen I got the bike so I have no experience how they were fitted.

Is there a "front" and "rear" at the barrels or are they symetrically?

Any pitfalls fitting them?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Uli,

The barrel will only fit one way -the fins on the right hand side are specially cut away to fit around the timing cover. It's ages since I had the barrel off an Navigator but I don't remember it as being a problem-the cam followers might cause a minor problem but I think a rubber band solves that (or am I thinking of something different).

Good idea about the bands, I was scratching my head over that. I was going to use grease, but bands are better.

Hi Uli, Were the eBay barrels any good?

Dan, the engine shop did a good job with sleeving and honing the cracked barrels. So I stick with them. They informed me yesterday so I picked them up this morning.

The recently purchased barrels via Ebay are for a Norton Electra .

I would have been in need of new pistons and heads plus sandblasting, reboring etc.

They are surplus now. They?re rusted but without broken fins. I didn?t try yet if they fit on the Navigator engine.
