hello everyone. I am almost there with the restoration of my fathers Norton es2 1948 but have a problem with the ignition cable. After having the magdyno refurbished the ignition cable once placed into the lever control on the handle bars pushes out of its holding which it shouldn't do. I was wondering if there are or anyone knows of a mechanic who could fix this and be willing to travel to Croydon south London where the bike is to do this. I would of course pay for travel and labour time.
Thank you

It seems odd Jonathon that you have managed to completely restore the ES2 but having a loose magneto cable is beyond your capabilities. But fair enough, I presume the cable is the advance and retard control cable? The problem it sounds is that the nipple on the control end simply needs to be slid further along the cable possibly about 1/4". To do this all you need to do is heat the nipple with a large soldering iron and slide it along the cable. Saw the new excess off , fan the cable end out, apply soldering fluxand re-solder the nipple and file it to clean excess solder. The cable is very lightly loaded so no safety issues here. Give it a try and save yourself a hundred quid.....Les
