Mk.lll frame identification

Forums

Ihave had a read through back messages and have the following queries regarding a frame i have, its marked on the front nearsidetank mount 065632 which i think is the mk111 part number, and on the headstock 00144, there is no frame identifying plate. i wondered if the stamping 00144 has any relevenceto identify the frame. i do not think its is italianas there is noletter F near the number and i read that some frames are registered onthe fnumber on the v5c. top tube size 2 and 3/8ths dia other tube inch diameter .My concerns are the frame is not exactly true and before i spend money having it professionally jigged true has somenone in the past changed this bent frame and not cut this theoriginal up and my stampings would be of a registered bike? ifthe numbers arenot and the bike was put to a mot ready state could imot the bike on a frame number and could the club give a dating letter from the information on the frame to register on a age related plate?with photos or inspection ,thanks Arthur.

My 850 MK2A has 00122 on the headstock and 06414? stamped on the front of the tank bracket, 06-4140 is down as the part number for the 850 1974 frame on the Andover Norton site so the 06414? is explained, I have the 850F10422* also stamped on the headstock. So you look to be missing the Norton Factory frame number off the plate which is no longer there. The 00122 on my frame and the 00144 on yours are a mystery. Without that number I doubt the Club can Xref your frame to the factory records, instead you would be best going off the engine number when you get one but if the frame is bent that's academic.

thanks for reply, all a bit confusing regarding 00144 as i carefully removed the original paint with paint stripper [still had factory transfers on further down the frame] and there are no other stampings just the screw holes where the factory plate fitted.i will give it some more thoughts and check with the club regestration system with photos etc.
