Hammerite smooth....
... in a spray can. Sample some off into the lid, leave the propellant/ solvent vent off a little then apply with the appropriate implement. Missing shards/ chips with a cocktail stick; rubs or wear with a long hair brush. I did try a chip repair method where you blob the paint on top of the original finish then swipe it over the void, it prevents dragging out the paint leaving a depression. Worth a try....
It has good solids and adheres to most materials, doesn’t need primer and cuts back well with a similar sheen to original.
I have used the Humbrol with good results also, but not as widely available.
Cheers

Proper black
I've used brush on Japlac jet black enamel with good results in the past, but it seems unobtainable now.
It's proper stuff with a deep rich one coat black colour.
Anyone know where it's possible to buy it nowadays?

I use...
.. Paragon coach enamel although the smallest size you can get is 500ml. It's super paint with a deep high gloss and is also very tough.

If there are small chips,…
If there are small chips, the golden rule is to use a tiny brush and paint inside the broken edges, but DON'T overprint outside the chip.

I use Humbrol enamel from the model shop - easy to apply and dries to a good smooth shine that blends in well with the 2k paint on my frame and tinware..
