Featherbed frame top rail

I am having trouble with the lack of a frame number , but noticed that the top rail where the tank sits on , on the right hand side is pushed in on the inside of the frame to the rear section of the rail for about one foot . Why is this done .is it common on all frames, the push in is about one third of the diameter of the tube . Would the frame have been done like this to fit a norton single .

Yes you hit the nail on the head its a singles frame , stamp marks are on the rear left hand gusset , Singles had 4 or 13 on the top of the number this tells you one is a 500 ES2 and the 13 stamp mark for the Model 50 . 350cc but both very good frames, have fun yours anna J

Hello Anna

Thank you for a very helpful reply . It gives me something to work on when trying to register my Triton . I have an es2 engine that is virtually unused but the cases are from a model 50 . I might try and register the bike as an es2 or model 50 . The numbers in the log book say 390863 but I wonder if that should be 13-90863. I saw the cosmos norton on their site that you mentioned on another question I had , that is a really nice bike but out of my league . Thanks again and I will carry on with my bikes trying to sort them out
