Have a look on the left hand side of the front casting to which the petrol tank is bolted to. This is the usual location of the frame number on these models

The G is for 1952 so correct. The number was allocated to an ES2 so that is all fine. The S is unknown at this moment.

Thanks Barry and Ian!

Found framenumber, tried to take photo. Looks like there is faint 7 above 44486 number?

Is there any way to get it better to read? Remove some paint with abrasive paper?

Traced registrations down to year 1965, frame number was GS-44486 back then.

So that S is still quite mystery?

Anyone know how to find out whats it stands for?

btw, used gasket stripping spray to remove paint around frame number, there was not faint 7, so all is shown in my earlier photo.

Hi Timo,

Your 44486 number is in the 1952 era and I think that S is a faint 8 which would make your frame G8 44486 which would be correct for a 1952 plunger frame Big 4 600 sv. Most Big 4 machines were rigid frames, but you could order a plunger frame as an optional extra. This would be exactly the same as an ES2 frame but with a different number.

In my records this bike is recorded as a G4  44486.

This was a Model 4 ES2 Shipped from Bracebridge in March 1952.
