Camshaft thrust washer?

I’ve seen several different camshaft thrust washers on the RGM web site - some are plain flat steel washers and one is a bronze one with two grooves across one face. However, when I pulled my (non-running) 1960 Domi 99 engine apart I’m sure there wasn’t a thrust washer anywhere on the camshaft. Are the thrust washers only fitted where  unwanted sideways ‘slack’ has been found, i.e. when there is too much side to side movement in the camshaft? Alternatively, is my engine missing vital components? If so, whereabouts do the thrust washers fit - inside the crankcase or behind the camshaft sprocket?

Was the thrust washer not a Commando thing to deal with the skew gear tacho drive ? Don't rely on me as I've never dismantled a Dommie, but it might confirm what you already suspected. On the Commando, it fits between tacho worm and timing side cam bush.

Richard is right, the thrust washer is a late Commando thing.  The earlier bikes relied on a flange on the cam to pull up to the timing side bush

After more than thirty years I still don't know what a domi is...

Twin chain engines !949 until the 20M3 Commando only had the camshaft  and sprocket  with no additional components needed.for location in the cases

Only single chain engines, commando as Paul said,  starting with 20M3S and up had thrust washers.
