Advance, retard advice.

The manuel advance retard doesn't seem to be moving enough towards the retard side. When moving lever on handlebars it seems not to be moving the whole distance that the lever moves. In other words it seems it won't go into the fully retarded position. So the questions are how do I tell if it is moving to its full retard position and what do I do to correct it. The reason I ask is because I'm getting lots of kickbacks. Many thanks.

There is more travel on the average handlebar lever than there is on the magneto cam. It's fairly straightforward to see if the magneto is moving from stop to stop.

Is it a new problem ? It sounds as if you're going to have to start from scratch and check the timing.

... by taking the points cover off an watching the cam move. As said, full travel of the handlebar lever isn't anywhere near that of the air lever - it's usually no more than 45 degrees or so.

But yes, check the timing on full advance.

Hello  Now The Book says  set to leaver to fully advance  at 38%Degress before top dead centre then Bolt up everything  to start  just retard   with the leaver  on the left,  yours   Anna J
