aarrrggggghhhhhh!!!

Forums

stopped by the machine shop yesterdaywhere the cylinder was left 2 weeks ago to see how it was coming. he said he thought it would be finished this week. great!! i got a call today saying he had it bored and honed and set in on the bench and turned around only to hear it roll off and hit the floor. there was a long pause on the phone while he waited for me to say something. despite my disappointment, whats done is done.

my question to fellow singles owners is ,: does anyone have an extra cylinder for a '57-'58 model 19S ?? someone ?, anyone ?? he was boring it to +.040 as it was +.020 and had some wear and i had bought a new 40 over piston.

i had just rec'd the spring covers today and was mounting the front forks when i got the call. all was going so good up to that point

any help appreciated.

thanks, mike kramer

Is the existing cylinder completely destroyed, or just a broken fin or two? If the latter, a welder should be able to fix it, at least cosmetically.

Dunno.

i got the call about 5:30 or so yesterday as i was assembling the forks on the bike after just rec'g the stainless spring covers.

he said the spigot where it goes into the crankcase is broke about an inch up, 2 pieces broke off and he can't find one of them. i don't know much else about it at this time. today i take mom for dialysis so i don't know if i'll have time to stop there. i don't know if it may have warped the cylinder any or bent or broke any fins. he asked me to see if i could find another jug so i'm asking you kind club members for help in this matter.

on a happy note lil ed norton and his 2 brothers are doing just fine. we're not sure which one is ed yet but melody thinks its the chocolate one. they'll be 3 days old today!! velocette, their mother is doing great also. gotta find that ray of hope-n-sunshine where you can, eh?

when i got the call he said to see if i could find another cylinder. with that said i didn't know what to expect. i went up there today to see for myself. no broken or bent fins. there is about a 2" piece broken off the spigot that locates the barrel in the crankcase. he already had a sleeve there that would do the job so it looks like that will be the avenue he pursues. shame it happened but the spilled milk thing, eh? from talking (emailing) several people it sounds like the barrels aren't offered very often, about like true nessie sighting. i'd buy a jug if anyone has an extra they have no need for but at this time it would only be a spare. hopefully this bike will be in the stable here ( and out on the road too! )as long as some of the others and they've been here 30+ yrs. oh, velocette had puppies monday and she and her 3 male pups are doing very good. we're keeping 1 ( anyway) and his name will be the same as the 19S, ed norton, we just don't know which puppy that will be at this point.
