Hi Guys, I have a 1943 16H and I can't find out much about settings etc, is the ignition timing the same as a '39 model, also the tappet clearance? Also it has an oil pipe union and a short length of pipe going nowhere coming from the left side of valve/tappet box, I gather this is to lube the lower tappets etc, but where from? Hope someone can help please, thanks in anticipation.

As Iain says, your bike is…
As Iain says, your bike is a WD 16H, there is no automatic lubrication of the valves, you have to use a grease gun on the nipples every few hundred miles. The book says 500 miles. The ignition timing is 35 degrees or 7/16"BTDC. The tappet clearance is inlet .002" Exhaust .003"
I hope this helps

1943 would be a WD model, which were to 1937 spec.
There is a great site for wartime Nortons wdnorton.nl
If i understand the pipe query correctly, that is just a gravity drain. Excess oil from the tappets runs to ground via the pipe. There should be a similar pipe on the underside of the magneto drive.
Welcome to the wonderful world of sidevalves
