Hi there,
I have just recently approached the DVLA about obtaining a log book for a frame I bought some years ago, but I have no details of the registration, the problem is the only way they can issue me witha log book, is if I can give them the registration number. I bought the frame from a guy in the Manchester area, and the frame number is G4 42701, a plunger ES2. Can anyone advise me how I can find out the reg or is this a lost cause.Over the years I have collectedenough parts to build a bike up and put itback on the road, and it would be a shame if this frame cannot be used. Is it possible to maybe re-register it as a new biuld? would this possibly be a better route to take ? Any help would be most appreciated Kev...

Hi Kev, You would need to…
Hi Kev,
You would need to contact the records officer and obtain a copy of the factory record for your machine and explain what other info you need as these will show the dealer but always where it went exactly; some were chain stores like Kings of Oxford, they were a group not a single shop and owned others like Laytons who were in the same road! The records are not online for good reason, they are open to abuse with long scrapped vehicles suddenly turning up.....one(not a Norton) turned up recently for sale.......over 80 years since it was last seen! Suspicious or what?
Thanks

Kevin,
As an NOC Member you need look no further for all of this than your own Club. Just click on the tab 'Records' that you can see on the left hand side of this screen andselect 'Factory Records Check'.The NOC is recognised by DVLA asbeing able to support Members' applications forobtaining retained or age related registration numbers for Norton motorcycles. you will find the links for these processes on the same page of this site

Hi Kev,
This is not a lost cause! All you need to do is find out where the bike was sent from the factory then contact the VMCC to find out if the old records survive for that area. A number of these recorded frame numbers so you have a chance at getting the original reg back even if you have no idea what it was.
I KNOW some will scoff at this but it is TRUE and HAS been done by someone I know who had two non-Norton bikes that were in bits with no number plates or documents of any kind. Luckily these went to Oxford who kept their records so he got the original numbers back.
Manchester and Glasgow records are gone as are Yorkshire according to the list I have but Lancashire seem to have a full set so you have a chance if it went there. The bike could have come from anywhere in the country; I have a Manchester registered bike that was found near Brighton of all places so some did get about as well as an ES2 sent to Kings of Oxford that spent its entire life in Sunderland where it was sentby Kings to the first owner which causedpuzzlement when I wanted a copy of the factory record!
If the records are gone you will have to get an age related for it for which it will need an MOT.
Hope this helps you in your quest!
Thanks
