Late 650SS ignition replacement

Forums

I'm restoring a -68 650SS that has been sleeping for some 25 years. I think the  ignition is same as early Commandos placed on the rear of the engine. If I'm forced to replace it with a electronic ignition, what should I use? I've noticed that axial play is 2 - 3 mm. Does not matter with ignition points when breaker cam moves axially, but what will happen with electronic pickups. I believe that the shaft axial play will keep the chain lined up. Any suggestions on which way to go?

On my '62 650ss I replaced the magneto with a norvil ignition set (#063066, Boyer with rear of cylinder fixings) which has run perfectly for ~6k miles and the drive chain hasn't needed adjustment. I have the power box from that kit down between the oil tank and battery box, and also moved the coils between the tank and box with a norvil clamp (#997117ss). This hides these unsightly parts and puts most ignition wires in the dryest spot on the bike.
