Which rectifier/regulator?

Forums

As my bike is a 1959 Dominator 99 and was originaly on ignition coils, I believe it was altered to a Magneto at some point, along with the lighting switch which no longer needed the ignition switch part. I have been advised to fit an original switch (including the Ignition switch) which I may have to do, but I am still left with the problem of regulating the alternator supply to the 6 volt battery.

Can any member recomend a Rect/Regulator & Supplier for this machine.

If I get this sorted, I intend to put on the road in August (if the Summer returns).

Regards

Pete.

If you are using a new regulator, why not use a 12 volt battery and rewire the alternator to provide the single (higher) output? As it is, it probably switches coils in and out according to the headlamp switch settings. That's so crude that it's not worth keeping. One benefit is that you'll be able to have brighter headlights.Opinion masquerading as fact as usual!

I agree with David and Gordon and go one step further, fit a Boyer Power Box. Everything in one and still reliability, even with a duff battery and blown main fuse.

Also, may I wish Roadholder Editor, Mark W a speedy recovery.

And what do you mean 'if the Summer returns?' It is still July and we are supposed to be suffering from man made catastrophic warming. The very reason most of our petrol has got Ethanol in it!

The DVR2 will do both voltages, allowing you to convert up to 12volt or retain 6. It has a certain tolerance of reverse polarity and is very small.

The DVR2 is an excellent addition on amotorcycle(I use one), but they are only suitable for D.C.dynamo's (generators)! From what i gather, themachine in questionhas an A.C. alternator and will need a rectifier/regulator, which the DVR2 is not.

This is what Stuart actually meant - easy slip.

A Reg 1, 12V 200W capability.A Reg 6, for 6V 200W capability.A Reg 3, for 3 phase 200W capability

From AO Services website. I use the A Reg 1 in my Dominator and DVR2s in my dynamo-equipped bikes.
