Hi everyone,
I recently decided to find the Petrol Tap that came with my long term Jubilee restoration. See attached picture. I have read the previous posts on Fuel Taps but cannot find any information on this particular Tap, so could any off you answer the following questions or comment:
Where can I find a filter?
Can the Tap be stripped down and serviced?
Or should I just replace with a new tap ie “Classic 1/8 BSP British Motorcycle Moped Fuel Tap Matchless & others Reserve NEW”
I fitted....
.. what I think is the one you refer to and although on the flimsy side it does fit and works and doesn't leak (so far). After decades of struggling with leaky enots, Ewarts and the like it's great.
I used BAP type taps on my ES2 which don't look quite right but are cheap and leakproof. Unfortunately they don't come in the 1/8" BSP size I need for the Electra.
This is the tap I have:

Although he says collection in person he does post them It's ebay's bizarre rules that make him say collection.

Have to admit that it took a couple of attempts to get the orriginal Ewarts fuel proof. But it has been in use on my go to bike for many years now . possibly lasting because i empty out tank once a year and dont allow moisture to enter tank when bike not in use. Main enemy to tap appears to be rust particles which are very abraisive.

Thanks everybody.
Since posting I have found a good repair guide for push pull taps from 2012 ref https://www.matchlessclueless.com/mechanical/fuel-carb/fix-leaking-petrol-taps/
Although I am still left with the problem of fitting a filter. An Ewarts mesh filter seems to be the only option . Attaching with Araldite (2022) seems to be a easy fix. I cannot find any filter with the thread attachment on my original Tap. Anybody else aware of any?
Re Ewarts Taps. I do have some Ewarts parts, see attached picture. Wrong size plus I assume the middle part is from a different Tap. Anybody need a 3/8th Ewart body or can swap with a 1/8th body?

That tap is from an earlier era. It can be stripped and corks replaced. The most important features for a new tap are, will it fit ,are the threads the right size , will the pipe/body foul the frame ,styling panel etc. and does it have a reserve feature as the bike can only have one tap. All reasons why if possible you should find an orriginal fitment Ewarts and restore it. Will take patience and time ,I can help. The Ewarts came in many forms and its likely you will buy a few duds on the way. perhaps find something new that will do for now. I think the correct tap had an outlet at 90 degrees to the tap main body. you may be able to fit an elbow to a straight thro tap .
