Speedo rebuild - who?

Forums

Can anyone recommend someone who can repair one of the magnetic type of speedometers? I have a wavering needle which I understand is a common problem.

Also, can someone suggest a source for new/reconditioned original green dot Commando clocks?

Speedo Repairs in Aldershot are good. Depends where you are; UK or somewhere else? On'recons' they rarely come up from what I've seen on auction sites etc.

Hi Keith,

I'm in the UK - Forest of Dean, Glos. I have emailed Speedo Repairs for a quote. Thanks.

Andrew, I see that you say your problem is a wavering needle ? From what I understand this is quite normal and is caused by rough action in the drive cable or even the rear wheel drive box. I am not sure if any work on the speedo will actually sort it out. I would have a chat with Ashley Pople at Aldershot and take it from there. Repairs are not cheap and a new drive gear box can be cheaper. Having said that there can be wear in the drive head (speedo) where the cable puts too much pressure on the drive cogs. The relationship between drive box, cable and head has to be quite sweet so speak to AP for full explanation.

The Services section is an excellent resource but has one disabling weakness. There is no field giving location. It takes an age to find someone nearby!

(PS Why did the software decline to add this comment above?)

I thought I would chip in in support of Alan, the Services guide would be much more helpful with a rough location added.

Best
