My 1952 ES2 has, for reasons entirely unknown to me, been timed by a previous owner 5/16" BTDC rather then 5/8".
I used to have a dinky little 2 legged puller that was ideal for the mag sprocket but over the years this has gone walkabout.
There is a clever tool described in some of the manuals (see pic) but I also found an article by Rick Parkington that described a simpler version. Worked like a dream.

Attachments sprocket-tool-jpgI think I'd seen that but…
I think I'd seen that but forgotten about it, Ian. But things have taken a disastrous turn. In attempting to reset the pressure valve to its correct setting (1.5 turns open) the housing round the prv shattered so I'm now grounded. I cannot find anyone who does a new timing cover from the usual suspects (Norvil, RGM). Can anyone else help. The cover is now useless. HELP!!

Sorry Ian, I thought this…
Sorry Ian, I thought this was part of another thread. Didn't mean to hijack it. I've started a separate thread.
Apols.

Thanks for this, Ian. The one described in the manual is all very well if you are a blacksmith, but not all that easy to make otherwise.
