Prewar Rexine saddle covers

Forums

Does anyone make a fair copy of the prewar saddle covers? Mine for a 1937 16H has a Lycett saddle but the cover is shabby with some holes in the Rexine cover and frayed edges etc. Still not sure whether to go for the slighly shabby original look and patch it up as best I can - or replace with something horribly out of period. I fear nasty modern vinyl is so superior that the original appearance will be hard to maintain.

Thanks.

The lack of a supply of Rexine is a major problem in recreating an authentic-looking 1930s or 1940s motorcycle. Bookbinders still use something similar but it's too thin and there are no true heavyweight leathercloths anymore.

I can't believe that there are no rolls of NOS Rexine tucked away anywhere but I've yet to find any.

A chap who posts on the BSA WM20 forum has located a supply of a harder vinyl which is very close and is in the process of having some copies made of a couple of original types. As with all these things though, it never happens overnight.

There is a lot of variation in size and shape of the saddle frames. Whatever you do, don't throw your original pattern away.
