Mk.3 indicator warning light

Forums

Puzzled as to why mine lights WITH the left hand indicators, but NOT with the right hand ones!!

Both sides work fine, front and rear, but reading the wiring diagram I assume the warning light 'earths' through the side not being used?

Knee jerk (or just 'jerk') reaction would be dodgy wire to the warning light, but if that is 'earth' to the other side, neither would light it??

Or am I missing something here? Have Physics and Chemistry at 'O' level so not totally inept..... hopefully someone out there is brighter than me (not so hard I am sure!)

Suggestions please....

Have had similar strange indicator faults where either one side would not work or would not flash while the other was fine and it hasalways come down to either a bad earth or a faulty (worn) switch. Also if battery is in a poor state of charge and you try indicators with engine off these faults can be exacerbated - with engine running and charging the fault can disappear. My guess -a bad earth somewhere and / or a worn switch.

Totally inept with computers, though!

Thanks for input and suggestions, I'm sure it is an earth fault BUT still can't see why everything else works fine all the time...... it isn't an intermittent fault or voltage dependant!

Hi

is the warning lamp a bulb or have you changed it to a led.

if a led you need an extra diode fitted or it will only flash on one side (warning lamp) indicators will work fine.

The plot thickens!

To be honest I haven't touched the warning lamp, but that doesn't mean previous owner didn't (like all 'previously owned'... the deeper you dig the more you uncover... and sometimes wonder: Why??) ALSO was hoping for a 'quick fix' (are they ever!) without having to pull the front end apart!

Would it therefore stand a good chance of working if I fitted a bulb? (assuming it was an led) I assume the led lights with current in one direction only? Or, how/where to fit diode? Though I think I prefer the bulb route...

Much thanks for your input......

If the wiring is correct then the ONLY reason for the fault you are seeing is if an LED has been fitted in place of a bulb.

Replace with correct bulb and problem solved.
