Laydown gearbox kickstart spring

Forums

Hi all

I think I have the wrong kickstart shaft bush fitted to my gearbox it seems too long to be able to fit the kickstart return spring any ideas on a easy fix would be much appreciated

No-one else has answered, and I'm not an expert..but there were differences between the single- and twin-cylinder boxes due to the wider twin engine. Might you have a single shaft with a twin-cylinder cover ? I thought the singles had a longer bush though.

Thanks for your reply I’m sure you are correct in saying there are differences between a g101,g102 and a gb8 laydown gearbox and im pretty sure I have a gearbox put together with a combination of two.I am hoping that I can just change the bush for a shorter type to enable the spring to fit, think it’s time to take it apart to find out

They are pretty easy to disassemble, and reassemble! I used Mike Hemings video sold by the club. Can’t remember if it went into detail about the kick start spring/bush but mine is together and working!  Have you looked at the parts books to whether there are different part numbers?

While you are in there check you have the right main shaft, singles and twins are different lengths.

Thanks to all for your help and after everyone’s input I think I’ve worked out what’s wrong I’ve checked measurements against an original gb8 featherbed gearbox and the shaft is the same length the previous owner run the bike as a Dommie racer without a kickstart and fitted a g101 outer case which has a longer bearing with the shorter shaft hence the spring not fitting
