Laydown gearbox clutch drag

Forums

I have a model 19R that has been fitted with a Mick Hemmings belt drive kit. The clutch is dragging. There was about 20 thou endfloat on the mainshaft. I took the gearbox apart to check the thickness of the thrust washer which seems to have worn down from 5mm to 4.8mm. So that does not look to bad, but I will replace it anyway.

The diagram I have which is not very good shows a flat steel washer between the thrust washer and the sleeve gear. My bike is not fitted with one----should it have one?

Also, the sleeve gear roller reataining washer has three notches in it which I didnt see weather they face the clutch end or the kickstart end of the mainshaft as it fell out as I removed the mainshaft. Can anybody tell me which way that washer faces?

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers

Just rebuilding a laydown box, parts just arrived from RGM. The sleeve gear retaining washer fell out of mine too. There are probably wear marks facing the bronze thrust washer on the same side as the three notches . There are probably matching notches on the sleeve gear.

The `washer` you mention earlier is, I believe, the retaining washer which fits into the sleeve gear (with the three marks on), they are one and the same.

Incidentally if you know where these are available I could do with a new one myself, mine is heavily scored. It looks like this washer should be centre punched or peened into position, to locate it into the sleeve gear.

Hope this is clear (probably as mud).
