Can anyone out there help me with my forks they are on a navigator but i think that they are jubillee ones! I just want to strip them down for a bit of an overhaul but I'm not sure how the sliders come off of the stantions and dont want to force or break anything, can anyone give me some simple instructions please?

Hi there,

Navigators were originally fitted with Roadholder forks which are totally different to the forks fitted to the Jubilee but it is possible to fit the Jubilee forks on a Navigator.

To remove a Jubilee slider is exceedingly simple; Remove the front wheel, remove the front mudguard and then remove the two securing screws on the fork crown. The original screws are simple slot headed items which you remove with a screwdriver. The slider now pulls downwards. The oil seal in the top of the slider may have gone a bit hard so it probably needs a bit of a pull to get it over the bushes which are soldered on the stanchion.

When you put the slider back you must use a bit of care to work the oil seal over the bushes as they are a very tight fit. I have never changed the bushes but it is a matter of unsoldering the old bushes and soldering on new ones.

Thanks Patrick, these are definatly not road holder's, and they do have the slotted screws on the fork crown. I have tried what you suggested but they seemed to come to a dead stop? Maybe i need to use a bit more force? I will try again tomorrow, thanks for your help.

Hi Tom,

The slider usually falls down a few inches under it's own weight but the oil seal then usually catches on the top bush. If the old oil seal is rock hard which it probably is then it can take a bit of effort to work it over the bush where it is a bit hard to get at properly. Getting it over the bottom bush is usually easier.

When you are reassembling use new oil seals and even then they ONLY JUST go over the bush. I normally work the lip over the bush with a small screwdriver but do it carefully.

Anyway have fun.
