Head gasket choice

Forums

Hi All, Is there a consensus as regards the best head gasket material please? There seems to be choice of solid copper, copper asbestos or composite. I have to say there are a couple of nicks in the surface that cannot be removed easily.

Ialso note Phil Hannam's tips (last July) to fix oil leaks.

The NOC shop has all 3 types it seems.

And another question for piston rings, would anyone know what the ring thickness is for the spare piston rings that are sold by the NOC shop, (I know they are always busy and don't want to bother them) My current + 20 pistons require rings with around 1.6mm thicknessfor the top 2 and 4.0mm for the oil scraper ring.

Many thanks

Many people favour copper gaskets. I find they will seep oil after some time. I use the composite gaskets. The tech articles I have read state thata few subsequent head torque sessions of the head after some heat cycles will ensure no leaks. The copper head gaskets I have used on two stroke mx bikes in the pastseep oil after a while. At least they are easy to fix.
