DOMINATOR SERVICE NOTES

Dear Members,

I have had a pretty good read of the Dominator Service Notes on the website as described in this month’s Roadholder.

I’m no expert but fairly competent and my view of the electronic version is “Wow” what a great compendium!

I’m looking forward to it being available hard copy in time for Christmas and would thank those making the invaluable contributions to the book.

I can't find the Service Notes.  When I do a search it just comes up with postings and my attention span is too short to trawl through pages and pages of them!

"Dommie service notes" in the search box, and second item down is the link. Not pages to scroll through to find them. Agree the various 'service notes' ought to have their own link to find them.

Hello Anthony, as of yesterday (27th July) I finished compiling a slightly updated version of the on-line publication and downloaded it to the printing company for them to prepare a draft of the 'hard' book. They reckon it will be a couple of weeks before I get the actual book. Experience with these publications means that I may need to make a few 'tweaks' but we're confident that the finished product will be available to NOC members pretty soon (as you say - 'in time for Christmas'). The NOC website and Roadholder will provide updates. The on-line version will also be updated.

Thanks George - Found it!  I had  typed in "Dominator Service Notes" before.  It didn't help, as I said.  I think it should have its own tag.

Huge amounts of praise must go To Mark W for managing to pull together, into one large bundle,  all the contributions to the Dominator Service Notes.

I first came across these Notes thirty years ago when using a computer for Desk Top Publishing was a new art. My own computer was a Commodore pet with a green screen and 5" floppy disc drive. The printer was a nine pin thump job that took five minutes to print a single A4 page.

I was asked to update the fifty six odd pages of gibberish and convert them into something like the then recently published Commando Service Notes.  Please see attachments for sample pages.

After a couple of years of fiddling about, I passed them on to another member of the NOC. At that point in time there had been five other main contributors as well as myself. This included Al Osborn, John Hudson, Colin Newman, John Hudson and one other anonymous person.

I next encountered the DSNs in 2009. At an NOC Executive Committee meeting I was once again handed a bundle of sheets of paper headed DSNs and asked to something with them. This time a wiser head was able to make use of vastly superior computers and printers along with Hard Disc Drives then memory sticks, emails and world-wide contacts. A small team was assembled to help share the load but progress was still as slow. Mainly due to the original sixteen chapters expanding to 50+ and nobody knowing all the answers.

There is still the odd gap, goof and typo in the 2023 DSNs but hopefully these will be whittled  down in time and the final printed version become a worthy addition to the resources of all Norton Dominator owners.
