Commando chaincase leak

Forums

I have an old 71 roadster just trying to get it up and runing, it has developed a big leak from the rear side of the primary chaincase. recently I cleaned off the cluch plates and put a new rubber seal on the cover and topped it up with fresh oil. now when it runs it throws a lot of oil out I know its chaincase oil because it is clean, have I over filled it with oil ? or any ideas what the cause and remedy is likely to be, yes I am new to Nortons but not afraid to get stuck in, any advice greatly apreciated, Steve

Hi Steve

I've just looked at my parts book to see if your bike is vastly different to my 77 850, you should find a slotted cheesehead screw possibly chromed and about half inch head diameter between the three larger aluminium slotted inspection covers, six o'clock ish, this is the oil level plug, remove it and one of the larger aluminium covers when the oil stops draining from the oil level plug hole you should be ok

I'll see if I can put a picture up, it's no' 38 on the drawing

the book also states 200 cc or ( 7 fl. oz )
