Choke lever position

Forums

Evening all,

Aplogises for this stupid question. On my Mk3 the choke lever is on the left handle bar. When the engine is hot (normal running) does the choke lever need to be pulling its cable tight or does it need to be in the slack position?

Secondly I have noticed air bubbles in my fuel lines which if i lean bike go up fuel pipes. ShouldI be getting air in these lines?

Hi Phil,

No question is stupid, it is the way we all gain knowledge.

Assuming you have a pair of Amal Concentric carbs then for starting the cable needs to be slack so the choke slides block most of the air input giving a rich mixture for starting from cold.

Once warm the lever needs to be pulled to tighten the cable and lift the choke slides.

Don't worry about the air bubbles they will not block the pipes, usually the engine vibration breaks them up and they work there way up and out.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your response and useful piece of advice. I am sure my bike will run much better when I take out tomorrow after work for a spin.

Regards

Phil
