Were the gearbox casings line reamed or machined on assembly to ensure that the mainshaft and layshaft bearings were true. Ive seen a number of inner casings on ebay and wonder if they would fit a main casing I have, without problems of the holes being out of line.

Hi John,
if they were, they were not marked up like crankcases, so I suspect not.
I would risk it, and do a trial assemblys with just 1 shaft in, for both, if either is tight, try another, if they turn freely I would go with it.
I have mixed and matched gearbox casings without problem.
