Dominator 88 oil return line seals

Forums

Hi all

Sorry but another question. My 57 Dommie 88 has an oil return line banjo bolt at the oil tank, this sends oil through a rigid line to the rockers. Completely different to the later set up.

There are 2 Dowty seals on the banjo and one has debonded so needs replacement. I have looked everywhere on the normal sites and cannot find new seals or a part number for them.

NOC shop doesn't seem to have them either.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get new seals please.

Thanks

Nigel.....your Dowty Seals are not standard on a Dominator.  Through generally such upgrades are usually worth the change. A couple of coppers washers, properly annealed, will probably work just as well.  You can find Dowty Seals on the likes of eBay but usually have to buy a box full.

Thanks Philip

The one seal I have is good and I'll supplement with a copper on the other side for now. As you say  I like the idea of the Dowty seals but wonder if the oil may broken down the bonding.

I'll get it going with the copper and get some good sizes to look around,  now that I know there is no correct part number.

Thanks

They are just copper washers either side of the banjo. Surè that is all I have on my 650.

When I ordered a new low pressure oil pipe from RGM,  I asked for the washers as well and they came in the order.

They are something like 1/2" bore, (1/4BSP?) but they could be bigger - it is nearly a year since I rebuilt that bit!

If you can't find the number, I would just ask your preferred supplier what they suggest.

Regards, George.

Some bikes have banjos that just  refuse to seal. It may be found that the banjo faces are not truly parallel with each other , This will need a micrometer to determine.  In these cases a Dowty washer is a far better bet than a copper washer.

Hi Nigel

I get all my Dowry seals from Ashton Seals Ltd, Barnsley S Yorks. They have a good website, and are very helpful. Much less expensive than most places( about £12 for 30)  stainless with a triple seal,

I have quite a few in stock, if you PM me I will put 4 in the post to you f o c

Thanks for the reply John

Earlier today I ordered some copper and a batch of 10 Dowty seals for hydraulics.

If I have any issues with any of these I'll drop you a line. I took a look at the joint faces today and they look good and a quick steel rule check shows flat but we'll wait and see reality when they come.

Thanks again
