Spares & Remanufacturing. Personal Funding....

Just a niggling thought, but why is/has Anthony Curzon having to fund the Manxman silencer project, by himself? surely it should have been a project funded by the Club and Anthony should have been recompensed for time and outlay!  People tell me spares are  almost impossible for the Lightweight twins, then there is the  cylinder barrel saga for the Heavy twins, as time goes on people are passing away knowledge goes with them and little specialists firms are closing.

With Covid 19  surely now is a time for action. Other clubs have sorted a lot on the re-manufacturing front.

C'mon NOC Sort yourself out! Soon.

John

hello  Tony now I do have number of issues with your comments    one yes this club did say they would fund the manxman silencers and exhaust pipes and I then spent a hole day on the telephone  ring round exhaust makers in this country and had a very interesting conversation with the Manager of Armours Exhaust  They told me yes we would of made the but some time back they had sold out all their tooling and now they get their exhausts made at Wassel  And Alan Wassel only take order from other business and Not the private one offs So then I rang all the other Exhaust makers in the country and out of these only one was willing to have ago  And I did email you about this and all I needed was a conformation letter that the NOC was to be the financing backer on ten set of exhaust system for the manxman model  but after months of waiting I gave it up So the NOC as said yes but No back up,  with a simple letter So that why you did not hear from me,  And I now make this very clear  to you I do not Need Manxman silencers  I have perfect set On the Bike. So asking the NOC to make sets of manxman exhausts was so other members can get to buy them, So this was never about me,AS some of you think it is,!!!   now let me also make this clear  Anthony Curzon  is one man that as a drive like no other in this club And to me a hero , So next with volunteers  Now I had my hands up to volunteer for the last ten years  But nothing as ever come of this  so too me its a case of if your face fits you get the job and it dose not matter if your skilled at this job or NOT . So then my face must not fit even that I am more skilled then you are , Yours  Anna J

Peter, please move away from any argument about competition or costs of ANY item at all.  It is irrelevant.  We have three main suppliers of Norton parts - Andover Norton, RGM and Norvil plus, of course our NOC Shop.  All charge different prices for the same items, as it the norm in the commercial world.  All are already in competition with each other.  A similar example is with carburettors.  Burlen make and sell Amal.  Hitchcock's are in competition with them.

My idea is to start with a "Wish List" which will be just that.  An idea of what members want that is not already available.   Fork Stanchions would clearly NOT be considered on that list nor would any other items that are already available and of acceptable quality and that fit properly.

The NOC is working on a procedure to get members to detail the parts required, this should go live at the end of September.

Although we have no issues with being in competition with other suppliers, it would be crazy to commision the manufacture of parts that are already available.

Please start your own personal wish list, DO NOT POST THEM YET. Have a think about where you have tried to obtain them, if they are Vehicle Off Road parts, for example a gear from the gearbox, if they are something that would make the bike 'correct' but does not prevent you fitting something else, for example silencers, or if they are purely cosmetic.  What do you think is a reasonable price to pay for the part that may be made in small numbers.

Have you talked to a company who say they could make the part but need a minimum order quantity.

Hopefully we will have a form in the October Roadholder and also on the web at the same time. You will then be able to provide all the information on your wish lists to the Parts Commissioning Officer.

Regards

Tony
