Engine stand

Bought this off Ebay, fits perfectly, much cheaper than the Andover-norton equivalent £30!

Hi Dick,

Ha! Ha! Actually I do have two Timing covers one older with the badge and the two oil pressure filtration mechanisms and one with the hole for the rev counter drive and haviing one Pressure valve filtration mechanism!

Do I really need a Rev' counter of would fitting one just be precocious and cost me another £350 in the build costs. I have ears and hopefully an empathy for engine noises.

Hi John,

like yourself I always relied on my ears but the industrial deafness has negated that so now I rely on brail reading the vibration through the handlebars.

My spare cover has two large cutouts for chain tensioning, I have thought about fitting Perspex covers to see exactly what is going on inside.

Oww! I hadn't thought about cutting holes in any, perhaps I can borrow one from someone who has!

Hearing is something we take for granted, like sight, sorry to hear that  your hearing is impaired, I had debris in my inner-ear two years ago and it was quite painful & and made me feel  disorientated for a few months, but was positional, so not intrusive all the time!

Having said that I can differentiate a poor runner from a crisp spot on engine and was always facsinated by Racing engines, that sounded like" nuts & bolts"  as they struggled to tick over  when off cam, so to speak.

Hi Dick,

Thanks 4 the offer, but I am residing in Kent these days, my Wife was from Canterbury, but I am a native of Lancashire, originally! I hope you will not hold that against me! I do travel up and down in "normal" times, my elderly parents are in Chorley, but I come up the East side of the Country and then cut across to the M62 on the Doncaster bypass or go on and often call in on Anna in Howden for a quick visit, before heading to Lanc's.

One of my favourite memories was Good Friday 1997, we had left Canterbury the night before and stayed in Berkhampsted, left there @ 4:am travelling North and got grid-locked on some Motorway A1M, I think, I came off because the Citroen Visa has a slight water leak, cap I think and drove off at 9;00 ish am and we found ourselves @ Conisborough Castle a little piece of Paradise! Two old girls cooked me a fried breakfast in the house near it and my Wife had teas and scones, there were so warm and kind! I topped up the coolant stayed there an hour and because the traffic was so bad East side, I drove  cross-country through the Yorkshire Dales to the Hog's back M6 Penrith then went up that way and on to Aberdeen it took us 16 plus from Hertfordshire with a strange looking Comet to watch as the night fell.

Those were good times, though I didn't know it at the time, my Wife died of cancer and the end of next month will be 5 years ago! Some crap times since then and I now know you never get over it you just adjust, it has taken time and that is what I have tried to do. Now I am married to bits of metal, not the same but it does help fill the void.

30-40, years ago this Country was a happier, friendlier place, sadly this is not so now, no matter where you go. They try to tell me it's progress, but I am not a fool!

Take care

John

Hi John,

No problem coming from Lancashire, I originate from County Durham. Been down here 41 years but apparently you can never qualify as being Yorkshire unless born here.

We are just 2 miles off the old A1 just north of Bawtry, if you are ever passing let me know and I can forward directions, I'm sure we can rustle up some refreshments.

Sorry to hear about you loosing your wife, our eldest son died of a heart attack 3 years ago, he was just 48 and a very keen biker. He was MD of GIVI the bike luggage people for many years before going into specialized powder coatings for Aston Martin, Jaguar etc..

Stay Safe

Hi Dick, thanks, sorry to hear about your Son. Life's a bitch sometimes! My Uncle married a girl from Darlington and as a kid we used to travel from Chorley via Kirby Lonsdale to Ingleton than Hawes, Leyburn , Catterick to Scotch Corner then and Hurworth. He moved up there in 1966/67. My Dad had a Singer Gazelle 8NTE and it used to take off we he drove across the switch-back! He favoured Rootes cars above all others. I remember travelling across the North York moors and we couldn't see a thing through the mist! White Scar Caves was also a high point!

Having said that i always loved travelling, though if I am on two wheels, until I get sorted with the Norton's it may be one of my old Kawasaki's I  love four-cylinder power too.

Time for Bed

Cheers

John
