I have just finished the restoration/rebuild of my Mk.3 and trying to get the carb set-up correct.
I have Tri-spark ignition fitted, and have strobed it, so no problems there.
It fired up on the electric starter nicely with a few coughs and splutters, but one of the plugs on the carb manifolds blew off! They are a tight fit, so wasn't expecting that. See photo.
Should these pipes be linked?
I have fitted an RGM slim air filter which has a pipe at the back of it linked to the oil tank, but I have done away with the oil separator. The carbs are Premiers.
I previously balanced the carbs with two rods in the carb mouths.
I'm a bit worried that these blanking plugs come off on a run. I could replace them with a type that secures on mechanically?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These stubs are for a balance pipe arched and fitted to each one.
They are most effective at low RPM doing what it says on the tin, balances the pulses between cylinders.
