Dove Grey Paint

Forums

Hi, restoring my 62 Navigator De-Luxe, struggling to define the paint 'Dove Grey'. Does anyone have a BS number for this paint?

Cheers

Even with the correct BS number I would not go there.  I have an original side panel with the unbleached paint on the inside, and its a really depressing drab dirty finish. I have seen a number of restorations and they all have plumped for a grey tinged  white or even cream. The original finish does not look too bad once bleached by the passing of 60 years ,but the unbleached---YUK!. Where are you based?.

I used RAL 1013 perlweiss or pearl white for my  Navigator, a cream white, looks ok  for me. I had o original dove grey paint as a refernece, bike was painted red all over.

I too used RAL 1013, but would say it is to creamy, I think you would be better looking for Arabian Grey. I bought a pair of side panels that were original and the colour was mmuch greyer. Agree with Robert that it might be a bit glum, but if I do this again, I will try to get a toned down version. Also if using the Blue, try to get something nearer to Ever Ready Blue.

Mine's done in Ford Dove Grey. Looks fine to me and, of course, is easy to colour-match for touch-up purposes.

I used RAL 1013 and am very pleased with the match to un-faded patches on my 1962 Navigator. Astonishing how the paint fades and changes tone in normal use over 55 years.

My bike was boxed and stored in a dark barn in 1964, and only unboxed last August.

Another advantage of using RAL 1013 is that it is international, touch-ups are easily obtained. I had the frame parts powder coated RAL 1013 and the mudguard, tank etc spray painted in a different shop to RAL 1013. Perfect match.

Thanks everyone for the replies; sorry for the delay in responding, been away for a couple of days.

My 1962 Nav, de-luxe should be Dove grey and black, but having found a BS Dove grey I couldn't believe that such a drab colour could be correct. My frame had been painted a much lighter grey, almost a cream. I'm almost convinced to go with a lighter colour such as RAL 1013.

I was toying with the idea of satin black frame and a more vibrant colour for the rest but....I used to be indecisive, now I'm just not sure. There's still a fair amount to do before I need to make up my mind though.

In answer to your question, Robert, I'm in Darlington,

Cheers,

John B
