41 Years in the garage the final part

Forums

Hi

I have attached before and after pictures, it's running and needs a little fine tuning, followed by a full nut and bolt check.

I would like to thank you guys for all your help and advice, parts came mainly from Club Spares Scheme, Andover Norton, Norvil, RGM, Colorado Norton Works, and Al Os.

It has taken just on a year and been fun, as said previously I wanted a bike that looked more up to date, and went down that route.  Having said that I have all the original parts so it can be put back to bog standard which would have to include a paint job as I went for Jaguar Italian Racing Red rather than candy apple which was it's original colour, and reduced the size of the transfers as I considered them a bit too large.

The rusty tank had to be dipped into a solution to clear the rust which it has and no liner required, plus it had to be widened just a little to get over the spine of the frame.

I took off an original steering damper 064247 which if anybody wants to pay the postage they can have, it's not in great condition but would be good for spares, I have the instruction book with it.

Also I have hundreds of pictures I took when taking it apart and believe it to have been pretty much standard, so if you want a copy drop me a line and I will gladly send you copies.  I did offer them to the club but did not get a response which is the route I would have preffered.

If there is something in the pictures that you would like to copy just ask nothing is a secret.

Now for the G15 that's been in my garage for 35 years

Nice work

The bike looks well, I hope you will get years of enjoyment from riding it.

I am sure there is some back street outfit in the USA trying to turn out something similar ;0)

Best regards

Hi John.

It does look very nice. The paint job has a deep lusture. You stated that you had the tank "Dipped". Into what, and who did it, as I have a tank with a simulat internal rust issue and don't wish to line it with one of the many "Ethenol" proof linings?

Thanks.

Hi Kathrine

As you have guessed i took my inspiration from Colorado Norton Works, and spent many hours looking at as many Commando pictures as possible, and picking out what i personally wanted and tried to match it all together.

Silver Commando yokes.....really!!

Front brake came as a bolt on kit from CnW, very slim disc, Brembo caliper and master cylinder. I had to move the electrics from the right to the left handle bar to accommodate the new master cylinder. All bought from CnW and have to say every part fitted like a glove with full instructions very high quality.
