Yep, like Mark said, bring your gearbox forward . Depending how tight the drive chain is, you may have to push the back wheel forward too. Don't forget to adjust the rear chain when you're done.

If it was OK when you took the link out - try an electrical cable tie between rollers a link or two away each side of the loose link. That'll let you pull it together without your needing to be a super-strong octopus.

You need to loosen the two nuts on the adjuster either side of the post. Looking at it head on, turning the right hand one in, or clockwise as you would normally do up a right-hand thread, will take the gearbox forward. Easier to show than to explain if you know what I mean! If it's still really tight you may need to loosen the bottom gearbox bolt too.

Lets hope you are luckier than me,the big through bolt was siezed solid in the gearbox and did not allow the box to move only twist,,big stripdown to cure this one!!.If anyone can't get the primary tension to stay put its worth checking.

Chains don't wear even, so, if it is the same chain you removed the splitlink from then try turning the engine over until you find that slack spot. Really the chain shouldn't be that tight but if you can refit the link it will get you going untill you can free your gear box adjuster.
If you got the link out it will go back again if nothing has moved.

You might need to back off the tension, slacken the chain by moving the gearbox forward, then it shouldn't be a problem getting the link in.
