Bearing lock ring

Forums

After stripping down my rear hub I found that the thread in the hub was damaged and the new lock ring thread would not engage. I'm sure I could tap the thread, but can you get hold of a tap for this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had this problem as the aluminium thread must be prone to damage.

Hi Gary

If the tread is damaged at the start you should be able to restore it with a thread file, if itis the main body of the thread this will more serious. Finding a threadfile with the correct pitch and thread angle might be a problem but with some dudisious hand work you may get away with it.

Persevered and got it done, I think I was a bit daunted at first when I should have looked more closely.
