1963 NORTON ELECTRA GEERBOX OIL CHANGE

Forums

Hello, im going to drain and refill all the motor oil for

the first time. my question is this, does the gearbox

have a seperate drain plug , or does it share the same

motor oil thats used for the engine, i baught the manual

and it shows that the gearbox holds 2.25 pints.

     thank you - todd stewart

Hi Todd

The engine and gearbox oil are separate, there is no engine drain plug as such, you can remove the little sump plate and clean the gauze above it. Some people have fitted a drain plug into the plate but it isn’t standard.  It’s important to keep the gearbox oil topped up, low oil can result in layshaft bush damage. Post 64 bikes have a level plug which helps.Dan
