hi.
just come across my latest problem during engine rebuild that i am hoping for advice on.
the cylinder head stud next to exhaust has at some time stripped the thread in the head.this has been drilled and tapped out
when i removed the stud it was bent so i got a new one made not realsing that the reason it was bent was because the head had not been drilled straight so will not now sit down on barrel as the stud gets stuck.
my question is,can there be a cheap and effective solution to this bodge as i am not confident about using the original stud.

£30 sounds like a great price, was this a recent fix? as i would happiily send to a machine shop that has aleady carried out this work.

The best solution to this problem is to bite the bullet and get the stud replaced in its correct position. This will probably mean a serious engineering fix from one of the specialist firms.
On my damaged Atlas head, I had a similar problem with the rear stud being crooked. I went to a local engineering company who drilled out the original stud hole then tapped and wound in a fairly large blank brass insert. This was then tapped with the correct stud thread in its proper position. I paid just £30 for this work and was very pleased with the quality of the service.
