961 De-cat exhaust pipes

Has anyone fitted de-cat exhausts to their 961 or removed the cat from the exhaust? I was told some time ago that a version would be available from the factory but I guess they have other more important issues to deal with at the moment.

I would also like one for mine and was also told there would be one available but have not heard. Maybe worth a call to Motad who make the exhausts to see if they will be doing one.

I've De-Cat'd two previous bikes and was really impressed by the difference it makes, much better mid range andtop end Sorry Both where BMW's one I messed around with a TechLution Tuning Module as well to make it even better, but intantly hadimprovement over standard performance giving slightly lounder and gruffer sound without being offenesive.

Theres a Great Company in Norfolk we use for our Classic Bikes Pipes calledParavani he would be the man to talk to if you want your standard SS pipes de-cat'd by cut n shut. He be doing the Bike I must not meansion here assoon as i can get a set of SH front pipes for it.

Thanks for the information Graham, I may give them a try. I have already asked the Motad people at the Stafford show but so far they have not made any de-cat exhausts for the 961. I would imagine that the mixture will be affected so that would also need to be addressed.

They do do a louder peashooter silencer at Nortons, not as loud as the stubby ones, but not as muted as the standard peashooters, I've got them fitted on mine and everyone says that it sounds great and it goes ok so perhaps try them.

Thanks John but I already have them fitted and as you say they sound good and seem to improve performance. I thought that with the cat in the exhaust removed there would be an even greater boost to performance and a bit more noise. I also have the standard silencers(as new) if anyone is interested.

I would still like to get a de-cat version of the exhausts for my 961 Sport, I checked with Motad a while back at one of the bike shows but they don't have one yet. I have the sport silencers fitted but I'm sure that the cat fitted in line on the two exhausts just before the silencer fits must be very restrictive. I would also like a bit more noise to cover up the sound from the engine!!

A company in Nottingham, NRP Exhausts can manufacture and fit an exhaust for the 961. Their system looks good and has no cat, i think I will investigate getting them to fit one for me. Cost is £500 for the system, has anyone on here got one fitted and if so how does it perform?

Thanks, JMc

I had the long noisy pipes fitted at the first service (14th march 2014) and had the cat taken out at the same time, the sound ismuch betterwithout being too loud and the mid range torque feels better too. The price of the new middle exhaust section that has the cat taken out is an extra £300. The ECU needs to be reprogrammed for the noisy pipes and cat removal.

Before doing this you need to be sure that your de-catted bike will still meet the relevant emissions requirements. If reprogramming the ECU alone could achieve this, I rather doubt that Norton would have bothered to fit catalytic converters.

Also you should check that this mod does not invalidate your insurance policy.

Stay legal!

I was thinking of fitting Domiracer exhausts to my 961 Sport(if they would fit) it looks like that would be totally out of the question then!!

A de-catted X- pipe has been available in the US since November. One of my friends has one. It makes the bike slightly louder, little less torque, little more on top!

The Catalistic Exhausts only work's when there at the right temperature thats why when you go for you MOT they have rev the engine for some time to get the Catalistic converter Hot so it will read right on the exhaust testing machine . so when you riding or driving in town traffic the Catalistic exhaust is not work at all , So it begs the question why fit a Catalistic exhaust in the first place, there more trouble than there worth,

Anna its the greens and politicians that think the amount of particulates that motorist/motorcyclists puts out is going to save the world , the funny thing about it though is they put more pollution out manufacturing the things, the worlds gone mad.
