1969 Roadster Oil tank breather problems

Forums

I've had my 1969 Roadster for about 9 mnths now and have finally got it running sweetly but I cannot stop it blowing oil out of the oil tank vent pipe. Mine's the model with a central oil tank like the S model has. The crankcase breather pipe goes into a inlet stub at top of the tank and the vent pipe starts inside a tower at the top of the tank and emerges at the bottom of the tank where the air filter sits.

The oil level in the tank is now 1/2 an inch up on the dipstick so it's very low, dipstick is 6 1/2 inches long, but it's still blowing out of the vent pipe. There also appears to be some small splits in the plate that's welded to the front of the tank which is where the air cleaner mounts. Oil is also seeping out of these splits but only when the engine's running.

Is there anyone else out there with a commando with a cenral tank who's had similar problems and managed to cure it or has anyone got any suggestions?

Any advice appreciated. I've also posted this on the Brit Bike forum.

Regards

Phil
