Could anyone tell me where to purchase front brakes shoes? I’ve looked them up on Andover Norton under the pre-featherbed tab and it shows the front brake shoes 7” as rear brake shoes…is this correct?
Thanks much.
Nate.

Commando rear drum shoes fit…
Commando rear drum shoes fit the front of all the Norton Singles after 1931. But they are a very hard compound. There are softer linings available if you have worn out original shoes.

If you have the originals..
.. I'd get them relined. I use Villiers Services who do an excellent job. https://villiersservices.co.uk/

Double check.
Hi Nathan,
The brake shoes on your bike are shaped to accomodate the front wheel speedo drive. If you buy brand new shoes, check they are the same as your old ones. Probably best to get your originals re-lined.

So it sounds like a re-line…
So it sounds like a re-line is the best bet. Seems Villiers is the way to go but is there a firm in America that could do this? Shipping/exchange rate/shipping back home so that’s why I’m asking? Either way they will have to be done by the end of this riding season.
Thanks much.

M 18 front brakes ( girder fork models )
Does anyone have any knowledge of converting the front brake to double drum ? This was a mod that the V.M.C.C allowed to the girder forked sidecar racers

Basically yes.
Until the 8" front plates arrived at the end of 1953, the various models could mix and match front and rear 7" x 1.25" brake shoes. Watch out for some of the pattern shoes which sometimes had clearance issues on the inner side.
