petrol tank knee pads

Dear all,  Had my Commando Interstate tank resprayed in Candy Apple red a couple of years ago, and very nice too! At the time I put on removable  clear stick on pads, I now have heavy duty 1/4 inch thick Union Jack items . Question what glue to use,   its got to be strong enough to be permanent but hopefully  removable as the current ones are ....   (Heating up with hairdryer makes it soft, empty tank first, I know its not a blow torch   but all the same.....)If thats  not possible, then the best permanent fix.    Many Thanks

Hi Alec. Have you considered 3M double-sided trim tape (used on car bodywork trims)? Available in black or grey (and possibly other colours - I’m not sure). I fitted the tank knee pads on my Triumph about 6 years ago and they’re still in place.

Hope that’s a possible help.

Regards

Tony

You could use clear silicone sealant. It should come of with a twist when you need it to. It is sold under the Superglue brand in tubes. They have a better shelf life than big cartridges. Hold it in place with masking tape because it's not an impact glue.
