Roadholder badge positioning

Having recently bought a "Roadholder" badge and rivet set, I'm not sure of the correct location! I've just scrolled through some of the bikes in the Members Gallery: some seem to have them at the very bottom of the headlamp shrouds, others right at the top of the fork shrouds?

Asking for a friend...1961 88/ 1964 Atlas & ES400....

Thanks Bob, thats where I'd assumed they should go.After all, the wonderful Ian Slater painting at the top of the home page shows just that.

Thats why I've been puzzled by some lower down as I first commented. Just guesswork maybe?

Generally Long Roadholders had them at the top, Short Roadholders at the bottom 'cos there was no longer space above the headlamp lugs.

See the excellent Sales Brochure link for examples where shown.

I researched this a bit last year for my ‘68 Atlas as it didn’t have any badges or holes. Looking at pictures in the Bacon book and of other bikes online I concluded the base of the headlamp bracket was favourite.  Also helped by the fact RGM sell stick on versions of the badge with a description that they are for the later bikes.  So this is where I put mine

Simon,

Your 1968 model would have had water slide transfers hence no holes in the covers.

Transfers are listed in parts books from 1964 onwards.

I never knew that they were changed, but just as well they were. The drive pins for the brass ones are hardened steel. They rust and are then almost impossible to remove. Maybe copper or brass rivets could be used instead, provided you have access inside? All my pictures show that the brass ones were fitted in line with the upper level of the lower fork yoke.

... Long Road holders have them above the headlamp ears.

My 1961 Model 50 with 18 code frame has them at the lower position as Bob has shown.

Cheers

Jon
