Have NOC considered setting up a tool hire/tool share system?
I have offered loan of a valve seat cutter to a NOC member but I am acutely aware that good engineers are reluctant to share tools (don't know what that makes me!).
So the solution might be for NOC to invest in some tools that are essential and specific for Nortons and might not prove economic for owners to buy for a one-off job. Valve seat cutters being a good example.
NOC could recoup the cost of purchasing the tools by having a modest hire charge and a deposit for loss or damage.

Tool hire
Tony thanks for your reply. I assumed, wrongly perhaps, that the NOC spares warehouse would have some room for tools and that they have the expertise to send out items, correctly packaged and addressed and manage payments. Obviously, I am not suggesting the current, hard working spares team should take this on without additional help from volunteers.
i doubt that there would be frequent demand for tools but when they are needed it would be a great help for members.
After a search I see that a Commando pinion tool and a cycle thread dye have been sought in the past as well as valve seat cutters. A torque wrench, timing pinion pullers and a chain breaker and link peener might be popular as well.

I can't be sure but I think I set up my half time pinion extractor only to find it came off with my fingers. I can't be sure now...but it might be worth finding out if you really need it before buying one.

This is something I looked into a few years back. But after talking to the guy who runs the tool hire system for the BMW Owners Club and him explaining the issues and work involved. That convinced me not to go any further.
Having said that, if anyone would like to step forward as a volunteer to run such a system, I am happy to support them.
They need sufficient space to store tools and any shipping packaging materials, easy access to shipping and receiving methods, sufficient engineering knowledge to inspect and check that tools are safe to use, good inventory control. And it goes without saying that it helps if you know something about Norton's but that is not vital.
