Does anyone know, or has anyone successfully fitted a gearwheel speedo drive to a Manx conical hub? I have a hub I am considering using for road use but need/want to fit a speedo drive.
Just interested in knowing if its a case of replacing the bearing licking ring with the slots cut in it or if its just a no, no.

I'd recommend you to check…
I'd recommend you to check that there is no cracks in the hub. Old magnesium alloys can be very fragile. I've bought a £50 Chinese GPS speedo for my very original Victor Special to get it through our MOT equivalent. To be replaced with the original speedo when it's renovated. Works well, similar but not exactly the look of a Smiths.

Manx hub
If it helps, I have an alloy Molnar replica Manx hub with speedo drive fitted to my featherbed Inter.
It was some years ago when I acquired the hub, but I recall Molnars machined it to allow a speedo drive to be fitted. Perhaps worth putting in a call to them to find out what they do.
As mentioned above, be very careful with period magnesium electron. It can degrade and crack over time rendering it structurally unsafe. Rgds, Alan.

Sorry, but I've never fiddled with a Manx hub, but I suggest that it may be worth a look at the various electronic speedos available. They look just like a 'Chronicmetric' or Smiths magnetic job but without the speedo drive to contend with. In addition, the issue of a seized drive as highlighted in the current roadholder, makes it seem a sensible choice.
