Wipac Headlight

Forums

At the Bristol Bike show today I met the seller who sold me the wipac headlight - I didn’t realise he had 2 more! Which means I have found another 2 if anyone is interested, the seller is in the midlands (or at the Bristol show tomorrow (Sun)) and they are £65 each. Message me if you are interested and I’ll let you have his details.

Navigator/ Jubilee styling panels

Forums

I recently acquired a pair of styling panels for my Navigator.  How are they fitted?  The parts list tells me there is a grommet, I'm guessing for the top fixing?  The bottom fitting looks like it is held be the swinging arm spindle, a second nut to trap the panel on top of the nut that holds the spindle in place.

A couple of photos of the fixings would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Lightweight (heavyweight?) Clutch

Forums

Has anyone measured the force needed to pull the handlebar clutch lever to open the clutch?

If someone has what force was needed.

If not could someone measure it please?  A spring balance that can read up to approx. 20 kg (40lb) will be needed.  A loop of rope around the lever and the hook on the balance, pull the balance and see what the peak force is.  Not looking for high accuracy, just a reasonably close number, the average of a few pulls should do it.

Thanks in anticipation.

Camshaft bushes muddle

Forums

Learning as I go, I have discovered that camshaft timing side bushes are flanged (part No 22925) and drive side bushes are non flanged (part No 20772A). I have been sent two non flanged bushes by the NOC spares team that are annotated on the accompanying paperwork as part no 22925, timing side only, which I now believe to be wrong. Not realising that the opposing bushes were different, I then asked for two more 22925 bushes from a well known Norton parts supplier (WKNPS), as the NOC team had sent me their last two bushes.

Any suggestions who to contact re fastening nut/bolt/studs? My bike was bought 'complete' but is far from & I'm struggling to find odd bits.

Foot change mech, lightweight

Forums

Work proceeds on the (early type) gearbox of the Navigator.  I've just had a look at the foot change fittings.  All is well except for the alignment of the ratchet and pawl.  The attached photos show best and worst conditions.

The wear marks suggest that the box has been used like this for some time.  I would like to improve alignment.  Improving the alignment of ratchet and pawl would also give the pawl spring better location.

Anyone come across this before?  Any suggestions to improve alignment?

Sleeve gear, lightweight

Forums

Just been having a look at the sleeve gear, in good shape but there may be a time it needs replacing due to excess wear.  The only serviceable components are the bushes the gear rotates on.  Worn gear teeth cannot be "fixed",

That leaves the diameter the roller bearing runs on.  Has anyone worked out a way of restoring that?  I can think of a couple of ways that might work, one of them expensive, the other cheap.

Anyone attempted a repair to the bearing surface?

Gearbox

Forums

Just started looking at the gearbox in my Navigator, its the early type.

There are some shims in the gearbox, see the first photo.

They were fitted as follows.

1- on mainshaft adjacent to sleeve gear.

2- on layshaft, kickstart shaft end.

3- on kickstart shaft.

Is this correct?  I think the shim adjacent to the sleeve gear is doing nothing.

The two on the layshaft do little, the layshaft has 0.05" end float.

The only shim (washer) I am confident about is number 3 on the kickstart shaft.
